Dentures
replace missing teeth and their adjacent tissues.
There are partial or full dentures.
Partial
dentures act as dental bridges as they “bridge”
the gap between a missing tooth and teeth. They are made from
acrylic resin or metal.
*Metal dentures are stronger and more hygienic.
*Acrylic dentures are made of plastic and
are cheaper.
These dentures allow a recovery time (usually 4-8 weeks) after
all of the teeth are extracted before fitting the denture.
*Flexi dentures: Dr Jenny Suarez uses Valplast
b (flexible plastic material) which makes the dentures more
comfortable because of their smaller size and longer lasting.
Complete
dentures: Replace all of the teeth and their adjacent
tissues.
Immediate dentures: These types of dentures
are fitted immediately after all teeth have been removed.
This does not allow a healing period after teeth have been
removed. Additional adjustments may be needed as the healing
process occurs.
Reasons
why patients may require dentures include:
Restore aesthetics.
Improve speech
Improve chewing
Preserve or improve health of the oral cavity by preventing
unwanted tooth movement
Improve distribution of occlusal loads
Space maintenance
